Please right click the volume in the lower right and go to "Open Sound Settings"
At the bottom under "Advanced" click "More sound settings"
Click the Recording tab, choose the Microphone and click Properties
Click the "Levels" tab - it's likely that the box next to the number indicates that the microphone is muted. Click this to "unmute" and then say OK and try again.
